This alone is driving enormous growth and demand for Oak barrels in the east. It is argued that this is in turn driving a significant shortage of oak barrels globally.
The Chinese market is however highly competitive with a substantial need for lower cost solutions. For this reason stave and chip applications are substantial and make up the predominance of oak character found in mass retail products.
